So how long does it take to build a custom home?
One of the most pertinent questions someone looking to build a new home usually has is “How long does it take to build a custom home?” The answer usually varies depending on a multitude of factors.
Factor #1: Weather
The time to build a home can vary anywhere from 4 to 6 months, it pretty typical depending on several things. The time of the year and the weather conditions are the biggest considerations when figuring out the time frame to build a custom home. Here in Wisconsin, we can get some pretty nasty winter seasons, when it’s snowing it may add on a few days to the build. On the flip side, in the summer we have some great weather which may pick up a few days.
A lot of people ask if they can build during the winter. Absolutely! Building during the winter is always an option but understand there will be some additional costs such as tenting a home or heating certain things. Don’t be scared, however, these costs are often times minimal.
Factor #2: Planning
One of the ways to build a home quickly is to make sure all the decisions about the home are made quickly as well. From the finishes inside, the exterior, where we’re putting rock, stucco or siding, or what the roof colors will be are all decisions that if made early, will expedite the custom home building process. If selections haven’t been made then the home will take a little bit longer but that’s okay! Your custom home is a major investment in for the rest of your life. We want to help make every detail exactly right, but taking longer to make selections will have an overall impact on the build time of the home.
Factor #3: The Market
The market can also have an impact on the time frame. We like certain subcontractors, are they available? We don’t always have to use them but we like to, because they’re good! Is the market hot right now or has it slowed down? Is everyone available? Sometimes product availability, is the particular tile or sink in stock and ready to go or is it two week out?
Bottom line, expect 4 to 6 months for your custom Bosch Construction home to be completed. Variable in the build include the complexity of the home, the finishes, the weather, subcontractor availability, moving schedule, school and family life, and more.
Scheduling the time frame to build a custom home is one of the most challenging, but rewarding parts of the build, it’s a complex puzzle with many pieces.
