Our latest project is a car enthusiast’s dream! On this custom pole barn build, the client had a great idea of what they wanted to accomplish with their new build.  They came to us with a need for a multi-use custom pole barn with ample amounts of room for vehicle storage and plenty of space for working on them as well. They choose Bosch Construction to make it happen.

First, with our cold Wisconsin winters, the client was very concerned about the floor construction and didn’t want to run the risk of having any major cracking to the pole barn floor in the future. In order to mitigate the chances of that happening we stripped the top-soil and laid down a two foot stone base that was packed down with a rolling compactor in multiple stages as it was built up. By layering up the base of the pole barn foundation, it gave us an unbelievably solid substructure to begin building on.

Secondly, with construction taking place in the fall months, the support posts were set on post pads five feet deep in order to ensure problems with frost would not arise in the future. The exterior construction was pretty standard for this type of structure.

After setting the stone bed of the pole barn, electrical conduit and airlines were installed in the foundation from wall to wall. Since the barn will primarily serve as a workspace for automobiles, it was important to have airlines available to power things like the air tools and the air compressors. The electrical conduit was run under the floor, concealing the electrical lines required to power the 2 BendPak car lifts.

A two-inch high-density rigid foam was installed at the perimeter edge of the floor and over the entire floor surface area. Interstate Heating Inc. installed an in-floor heating system within the floor that connected to a manifold and boiler system that supplied the heat for the building.

The next step was pouring 5 inches of concrete across the majority of the pole barn floor. Around the car lifts the concrete was reinforced to 7 inches to support the weight of the car and trucks being worked on. The floors were then sealed with an epoxy and the vinyl checkerboard floor was installed, giving the pole barn a unique look and feel.

The interior walls were finished with a combination of 3/4 inch OSB on the lower 8 feet and acoustical steel panels on the upper portion. The exterior walls were insulated with R19 batt insulation. The ceiling had standard steel panels and attic space that features a catwalk from end to end and R38 blown-in insulation helping regulate temperature.

Looking up to the ceiling we see the high efficiency LED lighting package improving energy efficiency and illuminating the shop with brilliant bright light. And of course, the pole barn was outfitted with all the necessary modern electrical capabilities to support a truly classic custom hot rod shop.

This was truly a very fun project and we give a big thank you to our clients for putting their trust in Bosch Construction to complete their project with the highest level of detail and expectations in mind.
